Birth-Elements-One-World, 2024, Thijs Jaeger, wood, bronze, solenoids, eletronics, max msp, FDM print, rope The work is a sonic ritual comprised of an installation of my own hand-casted Indonesian temple bells inspired by their notion within Hindu and Buddhist temples that allow them to summon ghosts. infoBronze bells crafted through a combination of hand- molded and 3D-printed wax techniques, these bells embody both human and machine elements. Drawing inspiration from and incorporating iconographic references to Hindu and Buddhist temples, I recontextualize the untuned bells into a self-playing instrument that creates haunting melodies, intertwined with the sounds of mass-produced prayer machines to connect with my spiritual Indonesian ancestral part. I perform live on the instrument to interact with the human and machine through a Gamelan inspired composition.

infoEen mens kan nooit een ander sterfelijk wezen beheersen of begrijpen zoals God dat doet. Dit wordt de mensheid al vanaf het begin der tijden beloofd. Toch wordt hieraan gewerkt, gedreven door hebzucht en trots met onuitputtende energie. We zijn dogmatisch aan het wachten op de geboorte van een nieuwe en door de mensheid gecontroleerde levensvormen. Het verhaal van deze nieuwe schepping wordt in het werk verbeeld aan de hand van de verschillende. gerelateerde waarschuwingen die afstammen uit de oudheid. Echter komen deze mythes in aanraking met de huidige technologieën die deze schepping waar kunnen maken. Geavanceerde 3D printers en fictieve mega corporaties draaien in volle toeren om hun dromen te verwezenlijken. In dit proces verliest de auteur controle over de printer/schepper en worden de wezens geschapen zoals de machine dat wilt.
