GUIDELINES FOR REGISTRATION
Who can register?
Registration as a visual artist at Stroom is possible for active, professionally working artists who live and work in the municipality of The Hague.
How to register?
Please complete the online application form. Information submitted via your registration includes personal details, your curriculum vitae and visual, video and audio documentation, which can be uploaded directly to the website. The submitted documentation (min. 10 pictures/videos) needs to be recent – i.e. no more than 5 years old – and representative of your work. After completing the application form and uploading your documentation, you can finalize your registration and submit it for review.
The Professionalism Review Committee will evaluate the application against the following criteria:
1. The quality and expressiveness of the work
2. Workmanship
3. Recognition of the applicant’s artistic practice as evidenced by exhibitions, reviews, acquisitions, commissions, grants
4. Commercial and public art-related activities
These criteria are combined into a balanced overall appraisal. The committee will inform Stroom and the applicant of its recommendation in writing. In the case of a positive recommendation, the committee will also determine the term of the applicant’s recognition as an artist. In the case of a negative recommendation, the applicant can submit a new application after two years.
Deadlines for submitting your registration:
There are 3 review rounds each year. The ultimate submission deadlines are:
• 15 April (results mid-June)
• 15 August (results mid- October)
• 15 December (results mid- February)
Term of recognition
The term of the applicant’s recognition as a professional artist following the review of his or her application is 5 years. In some cases, the committee may decide to establish a different term of recognition. At the end of this term, the artist’s registration is subject to a so-called continuation review.
Art Academy graduates
Applications by graduates of an accredited art school in an ‘autonomous’ (i.e. non-applied) discipline like fine art or photography are automatically accepted, without an initial review. These candidates do however need to upload a completed application form and the requisite documentation. Their registration is subject to a continuation review after three years from their date of graduation.
GUIDELINES FOR UPDATING
Stroom works to ensure that its online database of The Hague artists is as relevant and representative as possible. But of course, as an artist, you are also responsible for keeping your documentation up to date.
It is a requirement to regularly (at least 1 time a year) update your digital portfolio (text and visual documentation) on the website. You will be notified about this automatically. Updates are required if you want to apply for subsidies, studio mediation or our studio visiting program.
If you do not upload your CV and images, this means that from that moment on you will no longer be visible on www.haagsekunstenaars.nl and www.thehagueartists.nl. However, you are still included in the artist database, so as soon as your CV and visual material have been updated, you will be visible online again and you can make use of our services again.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Artists that add materials to www.haagsekunstenaars.nl and www.thehagueartists.nl are and always remain the owner to the images and texts that are uploaded. They give permission to Stroom Den Haag to host the uploaded material and make it visible for a wide audience through this website and other means of communication by Stroom. Stroom maintains the right to refuse or remove uploaded materials.
If you think that your rights have been infringed upon we ask you to contact us immediately. Please send an e-mail to hknl@stroom.nl
