Enrico Carpi

I, Enrico Carpi (b.1997), am an Italian photographer, working on long-term documentary projects while reflecting upon time and space. My work is centered on capturing the subtle, often unnoticed moments in everyday life—those fleeting gestures, conversations, and episodes that carry profound beauty and complexity. Growing up in a small town, I have been particularly drawn to rural landscapes, the people and the traditions that persist within them. Using the medium of photography I collect impressions of the world, reflecting upon ideas, memory, and belonging. Through human absence and presence, I observe time and space capturing natural and urban traces, exploring the vastness and intimacy of landscape, and focuses on the relation between nature, urban structures, and portraiture. Working mainly with analog photography, I take a slow and reflective approach, valuing the time and care required to create large-format negatives. The physical process of image-making—from the act of photographing to the meticulous work in the darkroom—is integral to my practice. The whole process is slow and contemplative. Finally, when working on moving image, I make use of the interview form as a more collaborative approach, expanding my creative methods and narratives. My ultimate goal is not only to record portions of the world but to convey emotions and messages that resonate with a broader audience.
